Assessment of Accessibility and Utilization of Maternal Healthcare Services in Kwara State, Nigeria

Maternal health is a crucial aspect of public health, with global efforts focused on reducing maternal mortality and improving healthcare access. In Kwara State, Nigeria, maternal healthcare faces challenges such as geographical barriers, socio-economic disparities, and cultural influences that impact healthcare utilization.

This study aims to assess the accessibility and utilization of maternal healthcare services among women of reproductive age (15-49 years) in rural communities of Kwara State. The research explores key issues, including:

  • Knowledge of female reproductive healthcare
  • Barriers to accessing maternal health services
  • The impact of obstetric care on birth outcomes
  • Attitudes toward STI prevention
  • Unmet family planning needs

Using a descriptive cross-sectional study design and a multi-stage sampling approach, data is being collected through semi-structured questionnaires administered to women in rural communities with limited healthcare facilities. Statistical analysis will provide insights to inform targeted interventions for improved maternal health outcomes.

The findings from this study will be essential for policymakers, healthcare providers, and organizations working to enhance maternal health in Kwara State. The research aligns with global health equity goals by addressing disparities and informing evidence-based interventions to improve maternal healthcare access.
